Rakuten, fintech blockchain firm Chiliz ink Fan Token partnership deal

Prominent fintech blockchain firm Chiliz, which created Fan Tokens and the Socios.com fan engagement platform has reportedly partnered with Rakuten Europe.

Reportedly, this partnership will allow customers of Rakuten across the UK, Germany, and Spain to use Rakuten points for redeeming Fan Tokens. For the record, Fan Tokens are collectible and tradable digital assets that offer numerous benefits to their owners such as voting rights, AR-enabled features, club & sponsor promotions, VIP rewards, and super- fan recognition on Socios.com.

According to the credible sources, Rakuten has been expanding its footprint in Europe and is offering a wide range services in the region such as communications, shopping, and digital content; that are available through Rakuten.es, Rakuten.de, and Rakuten.co.uk.

Rakuten currently offers several Fan Tokens as part of its ecosystem for FC Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético de Madrid, Galatasaray, AS Roma and AC Milan. FC Barcelona is also a Main Global Partner of Rakuten. With the new partnership, more Fan Tokens from Chiliz’s pertners, which also include Manchester City, are expected to be added to its offerings.  

Chiliz and Rakuten will reportedly explore more integrations aiming to create a worldwide space where the users of Rakuten and Socios.com can freely interface with both the platforms. Chiliz is also expected to work with Rakuten blockchain lab, wherein Rakuten will become the official node validator for the Chiliz $CHZ blockchain.

Cédric Dufour, Managing Director Open E-Commerce, Rakuten Europe stated that the company’s goal is to provide an innovative, customer-oriented membership program. The partnership with Chiliz and Socios.com has made Rakuten the only loyalty program to integrate the possibility to redeem points for tokens, Dufour added.  

Meanwhile, Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz and Socios.com stated that through this partnership, the company has added seven Fan Tokens from some of the major sporting brands in the world to the Rakuten open e-commerce ecosystem. Dreyfus also added that the company is looking forward to seeing this partnership grow further as it adds more Fan Tokens and explore end-to-end integrations with Rakuten.
