Polestar partners with Circulor to drive sustainable supply chain operations

In a bid to make a shift towards a climate-neutral future, Swedish automobile giant- Polestar has announced a partnership with Circulor- a blockchain provider. The partnership comes in line with the automaker’s recently announced plans to develop a climate-neutral vehicle by the end of 2030.

At present, Polestar works with Circulor on the traceability of cobalt used in electric batteries to analyze the performance of its Polestar 2 EV. Through the alliance, both the companies have established a goal that includes entailing a wide range of raw materials, concentrating on those that carry human rights or environmental risks, like manganese, mica, lithium, nickel, and graphite, to name a few.

Citing reports, London-based Circulor provides support to businesses to gain more sustainable supply chains and work with advanced blockchain technologies to trace materials.

Basically, a blockchain is a digital ledger in which data is stored in blocks of information that are linked together through cryptography. A digital twin is developed for the raw material that is being traced and the material is then trailed through the supply chain, building a digital thread that records and follows several industrial processes and transformations.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar was quoted stating that the company firmly believes in ethics and conserving the environment. The latest tie-up with Circulor will help the company promote ethical and clean practices in its supply chain, and offer improved transparency to customers.

Incorporated in the year 1996, Polestar is focusing on making a shift towards sustainable mobility with its supply chain being an integral step.

In other news, the first Volvo-Polestar electric automobile is due on sale in the latter half of 2021 with deliveries likely in early 2022. These cars will be manufactured in China, the headquarters of Geely- Volvo’s parent firm.
