Ortho-cresols & their usage in disinfectants

Ortho-cresol is an organic compound formed from the combination of phenol and a functional methyl group. It is also known by another moniker, 2-methylphenol. While it does occur naturally, o-cresols are also produced artificially.

These cresols are used extensively as chemical intermediates for the production of other chemical compounds and materials, owing to their superior solvency properties and unique reactivity.
